One spiral notebook 2. A pocket folder for English work only in your binder. 3. A pencil to bring to class every day (pens, colored pencils, or markers if you choose) 4. Reading material for St. Paul Reads • Homework: Homework will be assigned as needed, typically several assignments each week. Students are responsible to check for missing assignments, including students that are absent from class. Use the student portal! Late assignments will be marked down. Turn in all assignments no matter how late. Some points are better than receiving a zero! For St. Paul Reads, you will be required to read 25 books. We will keep a list of finished books on a reading list in class. • General Expectations: Be Responsible • Bring your supplies to class every day. We will read and write every day. Don’t forget to bring your planner, notebook and a personal reading book! • Your Reader’s/Writer’s notebook, which will be provided, is an important part of my class. I use it to help get to know you and your writing skills. Take pride in your notebook – it will show how you progress as a writer, editor and thinker. • Attendance is an expected and significant part of an education. Arrive to class on time and be ready to learn. You should be in your seat when the bell rings. Be Respectful – to yourself, your classmates, and your teachers What does this look like? • Appropriate behavior and clothing is expected at all times. • Be Polite – don’t interrupt others. • Foul language is unacceptable. We must always strive to speak in a manner that is respectful and intelligent. Build Relationships • Building relationships with students is one of the most valuable and rewarding aspects of teaching. I look forward to getting to know each one of my students throughout their schooling at Ramsey. • Communication is critical to being successful. I extend an open invitation for all parents/guardians to join us in the classroom at any time. If you can help out in the classroom, that would be great! • I offer homework help before and after school, and I’m also available to meet with students regarding other questions or concerns. • Behavior: I expect you to come to class ready to learn! Show “above the line” behavior, and it will not be a problem. For disruptive or negative behavior in class, students will be assigned detention (this may be before or after school). If the student does not attend detention, I will contact parents and send the student’s name to the school administrator for further consequences. If behavior is chronic or severe, parents will be contacted immediately or student will be set to ISD (in school detention). • Parents: I hope to meet you at conferences or other school activities this year. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email at jamie.crandall@spps.org or leave a message at 651-293-8862 ext 1010.
