As Ramsey has a tradition of being a distinguished music department in the St. Paul school district.   There are a lot of fun and challenging performing opportunities at Ramsey for instrumental music students. The performance classes include:  seventh grade Varsity Band, eighth grade Concert Band, String Orchestra, Chamber Ensembles and two Jazz Bands.








Program Highlights Include:
  • Music literature for all ensembles is at Grade Level and above.
  • Master Classes throughout the year on all instruments.
  • Perform throughout the year  at various community events.
  • Record a "professional" biennial Music Dept. CD
  • All Instrumental Music students participate in small group lessons unless excused by director.
  • Composers-in-Residence


Beginning Band
This course is a trimester long course designed for students with little or no playing experience.

Varsity Band
Seventh grade students.

Concert Band
Eighth Grade Students

Jazz Bands
Jazz Lab and Jazz Ensemble.

String Orchestra
Seventh and Eighth Grade Students

Director's Award Recipients
The Directors Award is presented to eighth grade Band an Orchestra students that demonstrate continued exceptional musicality, musicianship and leadership in ensemble rehearsal and performance.
