Below is a brief summary and explanation of grades and grade book notations. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns (firstname.lastname@example.org):
Formative Assessments (25% of total grade): classwork participation, reader's response notebook, bookmark reading log homework
Summative Assessments (75% of total grade): one-pagers, reading responses, reports, presentations
Formative Assessments (25% of total grade): classwork participation, writer's notebook, homework practice
Summative Assessments (75% of total grade): papers - content, organization, process, mechanics
Grades are entered about once a week (more or less depending on the amount or type of assignments that week. Weeks when papers are due, grades may be a little delayed).
"Missing" indicates that work was not turned in. Missing bookmark logs can be turned in at any time before the end of the quarter. Other missing work may not be able to get made up, if it was an in-class assignment that required partner work or materials that are no longer available.
"Incomplete" indicates work that can still be made up. Generally, an incomplete indicates work that needs to be made up if the student is to receive a passing grade. Failure to turn in incomplete work before the end of the quarter will likely result in a failing grade.
"Turned in" indicates that the work has been turned in, but has not been officially graded.
A grade of:
"A" indicates that the student is exceeding standards/expectations.
"B" indicates that the student is meeting standards/expectations.
"C" indicates that the student is close to meeting standards/expectations.
"D" indicates that the student is far from meeting standards/expectations.
"N" indicates that the student has not turned in enough work to determine progress towards standards/expectations.
