This is an 8th grade challenge class with some advanced 7th graders. Some of the topics we will be covering this year are linear relationships, inequalities, exponential relationships and data and statistics.
Students are responsible for bringing their book to class and keeping it in good condition. The cost to replace a textbook is $65. Students will also receive 2 workbooks that should be kept in their 3-ring binder. One of the workbooks is blue and the other will be red. If a student loses a workbook, s/he will be charged $5 to cover copying costs. We also have CD – ROMs of the textbook available. If you would like to have one, please send $3.
For class, students need a three-ring binder with loose leaf paper and 2 workbooks, pencils with good erasers, math book, planner, and a scientific calculator.
Grading
The grading scale is:
90 – 100% A
80 – 89% B
70 – 79% C
60 – 69% D
Below 60% N
We will provide the opportunity to be successful in class. Ultimately, STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR LEARNING.
Your grade will be based on two categories: Homework/Classwork (40%) and Quizzes/Tests (60%)
Homework will be assigned daily. Homework assignments will be worth between 1-5 points depending on the number of problems. Homework assignments will be graded based on completion and/or correctness depending on the assignment. Homework assignments for a chapter will be accepted until the day of the test. All homework that is turned in for a chapter will be raised to the same percentage as the chapter test.
