Mission Statement and Philosophy
The Saint Paul Public Schools Student Wellness staff believe:
Healthy students are better learners; therefore we strive to promote healthy lifestyles and a healthy school environment
All children and their families have a right to education that guides
them toward self-awareness and self-realization in meeting the needs of
complex living.
The purpose of school nursing is:
- To enhance the educational process by the modification or removal
of health-related barriers to learning and by promotion of an optimal
level of wellness.
- To develop individual health-enhancing behaviors and reduce health-compromising ones.
- To encourage students to be knowledgeable consumers of the health
care system in order to make wise decisions about their personal health
needs.
- To provide those nursing and medically delegated services to
students that must be provided during the school day in order for the
student to benefit from an appropriate education.
- To protect the health and well-being of children and youth.
